JOB DESCRIPTION

ACCOUNT MANAGER, COMMERCIAL LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT

Summary: The Account Manager is responsible for exceeding customer expectations by effective management of the financial and human resources appropriated to them. The position ensures the performance of BJL, Inc. quality standards and the management of all resources to achieve confidence and exceptional service for our clients.

Priorities:

1. BJL, Inc. Customer Service Standards

  • Establish role as client's primary, responsible, point-of-contact
  • Contract renewal
  • Instill customer confidence
  • Foster the performance of exceptional service among team members
  • Mentor Supervisors in building long-term client relationships
  • Provide assurance that contract obligations, quality standards and expectations are fulfilled
  • Provide support to team members in performing and completing all client projects – we are the experts, they are seeking our advice
  • Consult collaboratively with clients to identify enhancement opportunities

2. Develop and Maintain Strong Crew Teams

  • Evaluate team strengths and limitations, augment as appropriate
  • Ensure proper development of Supervisors and client relationships – ensure relationship is successful and fosters trust
  • Mentor Supervisors and crew team members to ensure effective implementation of BJL, Inc. quality standards
  • Perform timely annual performance evaluations and personnel development strategies
  • Identify team members with potential for growth/career path
  • Foster a cohesive team of production and administrative staff to ensure quick response for client expectations and quality production
  • Support timely and accurate implementation of procedures and paperwork
  • Develop a quality production team through leadership and hands-on training of crew. Demonstrate strong work ethic through leading by example.
  • Sell, schedule, coordinate and supervise enhancement projects, ensuring production quality and budget control
  • Process timely billing and job costing data and correlate with standard estimating procedures

3. Collaborate with the Management Team to Maximize Efficiencies

  • Plan and execute staffing and scheduling as a team with other Account Managers to make sure that all resources – people, equipment, supplies – are used to their maximum potential and shared to the benefit of all crew teams and clients.

4. BJL, Inc. Quality Standards

  • Ensure BJL, Inc. quality standards are met by all team members for all clients
  • Accountable for profitability by diligent monitoring and analysis of estimating and productivity
  • Manage control system to ensure extra billable work is performed in a timely, accurate and profitable manner
  • Assist with the development and implementation of long-term enhancement objectives of customer sites
  • Manage direct cost of customer sites, meeting budget goals and business objectives
  • Manage service crews, support crews and administrative staff to satisfy contract obligations and ensure responsive concern for client expectations
  • Ensure extra billable work is performed and processed in a timely manner

Summary of Specific Responsibilities:

I. Management of Accounts

  • Maintain standards and ensure quality
  • Implement procedures and processes, and coordinate routine and long-term tasks and schedules
  • Maintain relationship with client as primary contact for all maintenance and enhancement activities
  • Return or acknowledge all client correspondence (e-mail, phone, letter) immediately – up to within 3 hours
  • Starting time for Account Manager is 6:45 am
  • Visit crews on site daily
  • Participate in after-hours meetings i.e. board meetings as necessary or required.
  • Be available periodically for weekend work as required by seasonal workload.
  • Participate in snow operations.

II. Enhancement Sales

  • Acknowledge all client requests immediately/up to 3 hours; determine customer deadline for response and proposal delivery. BJL, Inc.’s goal is less than 2 business days unless quicker response is required by client. Proposals requiring design will be handled case by case and according to clients’ needs.
  • Give clients what they ask for in proposals. If alternatives are recommended, discuss with customer prior to submission
  • Determine what kind of proposal is needed – plan, personal meeting, etc. Establish client requirements through one-on-one meetings and site walks.
  • Initiate estimate with all pertinent information; schedule design, estimating and admin staff to produce proposal within customer timeframe
  • Establish follow up schedule and follow up regularly.
  • Proactively prepare proposals, long-term budgets, and presentations in coordination with long-term objectives
  • Plan and execute enhancement scheduling in collaboration with other Account Managers to ensure crews and resources are efficiently booked and supplied with equipment and materials.
  • Supervision of Projects
  • Preparation of T & M work orders, details, and specifications
  • Procurement of plants, materials and equipment, coordination of sub contractors
  • Crew supervision – timely and accurate timecards, production schedules, operational efficiencies. Crew accountability for quality and production standards
  • Schedule/coordinate project timeline, change orders, and punch-lists through prompt project completions
  • Maintain communication with customers throughout project timeline

III. Job Costing of Accounts

  • Schedule and monitor performance, measuring budget to actual costs
  • Ensure contract compliance

IV. Personnel

  • Prepare and implement staff plan; revise as needed based on needs and budget
  • Participate in hiring and developing maintenance team
  • Maintain standards of performance and initiate periodic evaluations
  • Represent company in professional groups/associations for recruitment
  • Maintain active contact with people and trends in the industry

Minimum Requirements:

  • Four-year degree in Landscape Horticulture/Management and 2 years continuous experience in landscape construction/installation OR 4 years continuous service performing duties as described below.
  • Basic understanding of Landscape Design.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to tolerate and work efficiently in a stressful environment, along with ability to self motivate.
  • Valid driver’s license and DOT physical certification.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and internet search engines
  • Spanish is a plus
  • Pesticide Applicator’s License is a plus
